A warflail is an articulated club, essentially an adaptation of the medieval grain-threshing tool. It typically comprises a 3- to 5-foot long wooden handle and a heavy, reinforced, 1- to 2-foot long impact stave, joined together by a short length of chain (often a single stout link). Its joint accelerates the swing of the impact stave and so increases the force of a blow. The warflail's flexibility and reliance on centrifugal force make it very difficult to control safely, but in the hands of a master, it is a devastating weapon. WarFlail is my nickname, chosen because I admire the great skill required to wield this medieval weapon. It also happens to stand for: West Australian Roleplaying, Fantasy Literature & Associated Interests Leaguer (or Loony, as my wife says...).
