HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

ANNOUNCING THE ROYAL CHELEBIN TOURNAMENT 2001.

Round One > Round Two > Round Three > Quarter-Finals > Semi-Finals > Final

In conjunction with the inclusion of Bill Gant's Royal Chelebin Tournament article on our website, Auran is conducting a competition inspired by his work. Below is a list of the names of the brave knights who will compete in the tournament. The winners of the current round and the draw of the next round will be posted weekly.

How the Competition Works:

Bill Gant, as Master of the Lists, will run a pen and paper, simulated Joust Tournament, using his Jousting Rules. Players will be randomly allocated against one another and we will publish the results weekly on the website, starting from mid-August. Make sure you read both the Jousting and Chelebin Tournament articles so you understand how this works.

The Master of Lists decisions will be final.

The winner will be awarded:

A Sterling Silver Hârn Pin Brooch, a copy of the next d20 module and your coat-of arms (as described in your entry) rendered by our artists.

Good luck to all involved.

"MY LORDS AND LADIES, WELCOME!

It gives me great honour to present to you a most spectacular display of skill at arms, here at the Royal Chelebin Tournament of Chivalry. Assembled before you are three dozen excellent knights, ready to test their mettle in combat, to prove to you, distinguished lords and ladies, who among them is the greatest knight of all!

The knights have been paired at random, and in the first Round there are 16 pairs of combatants. The four remaining knights will participate in the second Round as spaces become available.

The rules of the joust are as follows: a pair of knights must charge at one another on horseback and attempt to unseat their opponent with rebated lance. Each knight is permitted three lances for this attempt. The first knight to unhorse his opponent is declared the winner and moves on to the next Round, while the loser is eliminated from the tournament.

If a knight breaks three lances without unseating his opponent, or if both knights are simultaneously unhorsed, the knights must dismount and fight on foot with chivalric weapons. The first combatant to fall to the ground loses the contest; if both fall prone at the same time, the first one to rise is declared the winner.

The winner of a contest gains all the remaining lances of his opponent. This is important since jousting lances break easily - if a knight finds himself without any lances, he will be forced to joust at considerable disadvantage with rebated broadsword. If the knight loses his sword as well, he must joust without a weapon.

As Master of the List, I charge all knights to fight honourably and valiantly. May the Lady guide their spears!

Now, without further ado, it is my pleasure to introduce the first Round of the tournament.

LET THE TOURNAMENT BEGIN!"

This concludes Round 1 of the tournament. Twelve of the 16 winners will go on to Round 2, to be joined by 4 new participants. The remaining four from Round 1 will go straight through to Round 3.

WELCOME TO ROUND 2!

What an enthralling Round 1 we have just witnessed. We have not only seen some of the finest jousting to date, but also some of the worst casualties. The spectators observe a moment of silence for Sir Morgan of Uldien, who met an untimely death during his bout with Sir Matalov of Auerdas.

Round 2 sees twelve of the 16 winners from Round 1, competing against each other and also against four new competitors. The random four from Round 1 who are not competing this Round will go through to Round 3.

Favourites are already being tipped, but one important factor to consider is that some of the winners from Round 1 are now injured, which will affect their performance. My lords and ladies, there is absolutely no certainty as to who will win this tournament!

LET ROUND 2 BEGIN!

This concludes Round 2 of the tournament. Four of the 8 winners will go on to Round 3, to joust against the 4 winners from Round 1 who did not participate in this Round. The remaining four from Round 2 will go directly to the Quarter-Finals, to await the winners of Round 3.

WELCOME TO ROUND 3!

In the aftermath of two outstanding rounds where we saw 36 knights joust one another, we see a pattern beginning to form here. Out of the 24 bouts we have witnessed, one quarter were won by unhorsing the opponent through a strike to the neck. Another quarter of the bouts were won by strikes to the knee or below during foot combat - and that's not even counting Sir Eldaen's unhorsing strike to Sir Gwelym's left knee. My lords and ladies, we are talking more than half the wins as a result of hits to the throat, knees, shins or feet! Looks like several of the knights might want to re-think their armour distribution in future.

Enough with the boring statistics. In Round 3, we see eight pairs of worthy contestants battle for a position in the Quarter-Finals. More of the knights are wounded now, and their shields damaged, but the fire in their hearts burn brighter than ever! We are in for a treat, my lords and ladies!

LET ROUND 3 BEGIN!

This concludes Round 3 of the tournament. Coming up next are the Quarter-Finals, where a winner will be determined for each of the four groups.

WELCOME TO THE QUARTER-FINALS!

What a spirited tournament it has been, my lords and ladies. Thirty-six excellent knights had entered the tournament, and in a series of spectacular clashes, all but eight have been eliminated from the competition.

These eight knights represent the finest warriors in this year's Royal Chelebin Tournament of Chivalry. It has taken great skill, determination and no small degree of luck for them to make it this far. However, the tournament is far from over - only one of these eight will win the championship.

And now, the knights will joust to determine the winner of each of the four groups. This is going to be intense!

My lords and ladies, coming up next are the Semi-Finals,
where the four winners of their groups will do battle.

WELCOME TO THE SEMI-FINALS!

From the fury of the tilt emerge four superb knights. The ultimate victory is so close they can surely taste it, but only one of them can be triumphant. Who will it be?

Sir Matalov of Auerdas, winner of Group A, arguably the finest jouster in the realm, but currently despised by many for his inappropriate comments.

Sir Von Brown, winner of Group B, the boorish warrior whose bark is as bad as his bite.

Sir Laban of Tyart, winner of Group C, the muscle-bound siege engine who hits hard. Very hard.

Sir Aerin of Kralwen, winner of Group D, the cunning tactician who knows how to exploit a weakness.

This Round will determine which two of these incredible knights will face off in the Final.

Congratulations to the two winners of the Semi Finals. Coming up next, the Final, to determine who will be the triumphant knight of this year's tournament!

WELCOME TO THE FINAL!

This is it, my lords and ladies, the moment we have been waiting for! Out of the original 36 knights who had entered the Royal Chelebin Tournament of Chivalry, there are only two left in the competition. But not for much longer - today, one of them will win the coveted prize and title of Champion of the Joust.

Congratulations to Tim Falkenberg (aka Sir Laban of Tyart)
- the 2001 Royal Chelebin Tournament Champion!

Tim will receive the Tournament Winner's brooch, a copy of his heraldic shield rendered by artists from the Project Hârn team and a copy of Dark Awakenings: Guardian.

A big, big thank you to Bill Gant (our master of the lists) and his fellow dice-rollers for making the tournament the success it was. I hope that you all enjoyed yourselves and that you will return to the lists a year from now to challenge Olokand for the Chelebin Brooch.
