Earlier this month, I posted version 2.0 and then 2.1 of my article entitled More House Rules for HMC - Combat. After having downloaded and re-downloaded the file, you will undoubtedly be absolutely thrilled to know that version 2.2 is now out! ;-)

So what's new? Well, the key thing is the integration of Klaus Mogensen's Method of Armour Calculation into my house rules. This is actually a fundamental rule change, and is a core component of my HârnMaster Advanced system.

Now, unless you are a mathematical genius, the Mogensen Method is time-consuming and complicated if you work out overlapping armour values with a calculator. So, to assist you I have uploaded a GM utility pack that contains a GM screen (featuring my current HMC house rules), armour calculator and profiles summary (one blank, one featuring knights' armour and one with generic armour profiles converted from HMG). It is the largest file I've offered to date, weighing in at 2.77Mb zipped. I hope you find it useful! :-)

I am pleased to advise that Jocke Anderson's site, BronzeWorks, which was pulled down last month, has come back online again. And with a new and improved look, too! :-) There isn't anything new content-wise, but Jocke tells me that he hopes to upload some new material later in the year.

As I kick back in my chair for the evening, sipping piping hot coffee from my recently acquired Pvaric Wheel thermos mug, I welcome the latest addition to HÂRN LINK:

Internet HârnicaInternet Hârnica by Brian White

The site appears to be a repository of existing Hârn material that have been "prettied up" to suit the Internet Hârnica style. I reckon the files would be more useful if they had graphics and maps as well, but anyway, take a look.

Check out the new-look Pax Tharda site by Ketherian! For those of you who have never been to this site before, it is the place to go to find out more about anything and everything Thardic. There is just so much excellent material there that you'll be very hard-pressed to get through it all in a single sitting.

The latest addition to HÂRN LINK is this promising site:

The Enclave of the Golden Orb The Enclave of the Golden Orb by Kingsley Gardner & Matthias Janssen

Golden Orb is supposed to be (or will be) the main register for all Hârnic heraldic achievements. An excellent idea, although the site currently lacks any achievements aside from the main one... Keep checking, though!

I humbly submit to you a minor, almost petty, update to my More House Rules for HMC - Combat article, taking the version number to v2.1. Now I realise that many of you would have already downloaded and probably printed off v2.0, so to save you the hassle of reprinting or even re-downloading the whole document, the changes are on Page 1 only. One change is to make Cloth's APVs B0.5 E1 P0.5 F1, and the other is an alternative house rule for dealing with Dodge (poached from my HMG house rules, actually). That's all.

Swords & Shields has resurfaced! And what a catch it has brought with it: a whopping 78-page, illustrated tome called Hârn Encounters. It is a collection of encounters contributed by a few talented Hârniacs. If you're a GM, download this worthy document now! But if you're a player - move along, move along, nothing to see here... :-)

Okay, so Swords & Shields may well be back online again, but its sister site, Hârn Tales has definitely shrivelled up and died. That would have to be one of the shortest-lived Hârn fansites ever, having survived for just three months. It was an ambitious project, but ultimately a doomed one. :-(

Swords & Shields is DEAD

Many Hârniacs are in a mad panic because they see that the web's most popular Hârn fansite, Swords & Shields, has apparently been torn down by its irascible author, Patrick Nilsson, because he spat the dummy over something inane.

Maybe April Fool's Day falls on a different day over in Sweden, but he's only kidding - the site will return soon, bigger and better than ever. Click on the image of the bard on that page if you don't believe me... :-)

To the half-dozen concerned Hârniacs who sent email to me advising that I had stuffed up and put an incorrect link to the More House Rules for HMC - Combat article, thank you for your vigilance! :-) The link has now been corrected.

There have been a couple of attempts at deciphering the manuscript in Lakise over at WYRMWARES. Both look pretty close to the mark - perhaps you can complete the translation?

Link Shift Announcement: Darkeen, webmaster of Darkeen's Battlefield has announced that he is splitting his HârnWorld fansite from his personal website, so now you will find all his Hârn stuff at:

Shorkyne.Harnmaster.NetShorkyne.Harnmaster.Net

This site features a lot of interesting things, most particularly Darkeen's campaign diary, "Under a Shorkyne Sky" and Darkeen's own HârnMaster Character Generator. Check it out.

It's been a while since I last posted any House Rules updates, so I offer you a double-whammy with a set of Combat House Rules for both HMG and HMC:

HMG House Rules - Combat (PDF, 171Kb)

More House Rules for HMC - Combat (PDF, 195kb)

Enjoy! :-)

WYRMWARES

Esteemed Hârn creator N. Robin Crossby, by arrangement with CGI, has opened an online merchandise store. This store, WYRMWARES, sells Hârnic (and other) T-shirts, mugs, etc. There are some really cool stuff for sale here - I particularly like some of the Pvaric Wheel products! In fact, I've already put an order for them (but wincing at the steep international shipping costs...). If you call yourself a Hârniac, then I think it would be proof of your devotion to go to this site and buy some Hârn stuff! :-)

Okay, anyone game to tell us what the manuscript in Lakise says in English? Now that would be a test to see how much you know Hârn...

Last month, Steve Williams of Kelestia.org.uk fame launched part one of a four part series on his Space Opera Setting (SOS) project. He has now announced the downloadable beta of part two, the SOS Guidelines v0.1. Have a go at play-testing it and do Steve a favour by emailing him your feedback.
