This just in from Grant at Columbia Games:

The new HârnMaster Character Generator software for Macintosh and Windows is now available for download from Columbia Games' website.

Well, what are you waiting for? Go take a look! :-)

The latest addition to HÂRN LINK is the following site:

Jason Robar's Hârn by Jason Robar

Jason tells me he has been a Hârniac since the very first issue of Encyclopedia Harnica. (That's a very long time, in case you were wondering.) But he has only just recently started putting something up online. Sheesh, Jason, what took you so long? ;-) Anyway, he has an active campaign so this site is sure to be updated regularly. Check it out.

One new link addition, one new removal. The ever-vigilant Gothmog has spotted that Shôrkýnè has gone down. It might just be a temporary thing, though, as Geoff Spakes - the author of the missing page - has indicated that his main site is getting ready to shift soon. But, seeing as the site is down for now, it has been removed from HÂRN LINK until further notice.

The lack of updates here over the past several days has been due to a couple of catastrophic crashes my computer had inexplicably suffered. The only solution was to completely re-format the partition of my hard disk in which the operating system resided and perform a clean install of all my software. It's literally taken days of installing, downloading and installing updates/patches, rebooting numerous times, etc. It's times like this when I really appreciate having a broadband connection - I reckon I would have gone mad had I still been on dial-up! Anyway, (almost) all fixed now...

Probably of greatest concern to HârnGamers right now is not my trials and tribulations with the PC, but rather the mysteriously absent HârnForum. It's simply vanished! Well, it hasn't, actually - the address has changed from the old www.harnforum.com address, that's all. Be sure to update your link to it as follows:

http://www.shadowharn.net/

Next item is a heads-up from Gothmog, who has found that HÂRN LINK is suffering from DLS (Dead Link Syndrome) again. This time, the dead link is to Wizard's Lair. What seems to have happened is the web host has discontinued support for free hosted sites, which this site apparently was. I suppose it's the sign of the times - free hosted sites are showing to be uneconomic and are therefore rapidly becoming extinct. :-( The link has now been deleted.

Last item to announce is that I recently received my copy of HârnQuest from Columbia Games! Excellent material and a great GM resource. The Dunir article is simply brilliant. The Innkeeper article is highly informative. The Ivashu article is a must-have for HârnMaster. If you're a Hârn GM, then make sure you order yourself a copy of HQ. If you're a Player, then forget you read this paragraph! :-)

The newest addition to the House Rules page is a table that shows the difference in weapon Attack/Defence Class values in Open and Close Mode. The reason for the table is that the published HMG Close Mode modifiers for a weapon's Defence Class don't make much sense to me, so I re-wrote them! Note that although the table was written with HMG in mind, it is very easy to use in HMC as well.

Open vs. Close Mode (PDF, 45Kb)

As with all of my house rules, your feedback is appreciated.

Sad to see another Hârn fan site go down. Timo Hanschke has advised that his site, Hârnic Corner, has been pulled down as a result of a takeover of his old ISP by a new company (Tiscali). Timo assures me that the site will return with a new address - all he needs now is a new web host. On ya, Timo! :-)
