Squeezing in yet another HÂRN LINK update before the end of the month is this one from fellow Hârniac Aaron Kavli, who has shifted his site to a new address:

Now, Aaron isn't your average Hârn fan with merely one website. He also happens to be the coordinator for the Larani project of the Hârn Religion Team.

Timo Hanschke has advised me that his website has moved. It can now be accessed at:

Thanks for the update, TImo!

Today is my wife's birthday. Happy birthday, Scully! :-)

Another addition to the HÂRN LINK, this one is a volunteer Mappa Hârnica project that is being undertaken by several HârnGamers and coordinated by Hârn veteran J. Patrick McDonald:

This project is attempting to detail Nelafayn hundred, which is a region in the northwestern part of the kingdom of Kaldor. This area is next to Ambarnis hundred, which is where Loban manor is located, which in turn is the setting for the adventure module, 100 Bushels of Rye.

Resurrected! Var-Hyvrak, until recently an offline online German Hârn magazine, has finally returned, courtesy of Frank Bohnsack. Making a reappearance on the HÂRN LINK:

Today is my old friend Kuma's birthday! Happy birthday, mate. :-)

There are new Hârn fan sites popping up all over the place! It's hard to keep up. The latest addition to HÂRN LINK is this one:

Also found is this site, which is a few years old but I had only just discovered it today:

I have to admit I'm not a big fan of sites that force you to listen to music files when you visit, but aside from that, this site looks well organised.

Valentine's Day. In Australia and other western countries, this is when guys take their favourite girls out for a nice meal, give them flowers and/or chocolates, and pray they'll get lucky! :-) Of course, for single people, this is a pretty miserable day. Ah, l'amour...

There is yet another addition to the HÂRN LINK page, with the inclusion of this extremely interesting site that is striving to create the world's most complete HârnMaster Character Generator. Check it out:

Auran's Project Hârn website has been updated with a few new additions today, as announced by John Banks:

Spells from a Peleahn Chantry in Shostim, Rethem: Three new spells, penned by our very own Keith Done, that manipulate the element of fire by the Shenava Fasalvik. (http://www.auran.com/harn/fea_mag.htm)

Invocations of Soorael the Blessed, Ebasethe of Peoni: Four of the invocations that have been bestowed upon this saintly priestess of the Peoni faith, again by Keith Done. (http://www.auran.com/harn/fea_rel.htm)

Jousting: A fan contribution by Bill Gant detailing optional rules to be used for Jousts. Thanks Bill! (http://www.auran.com/harn/fea_mil.htm)

On that last addition, you're welcome, Auran! :-) BTW, if you are wondering where that article came from, you will find it in the following document:

Bill Gant's HârnMaster House Rules v3.2  (306Kb)

Subject change. Two more articles have been unearthed from my cluttered archives! They are:

Levels-to-Points Conversion System  (14Kb)

Falling Damage  (15Kb)

They are a little old and dusty, but you might like to take a look at them. :-)

Several additional links have been posted on HÂRN LINK. Thanks to Jim Lassiter for the following contributions:

There is some really high quality material out there. Please keep those links coming, everyone! :-)

More on the CHMP front, Andy Staples has announced:

I'd just like to let this list know that within hours of the release of Mappa Hârnica, CHMP member Chris Golden won ProFantasy Software's coveted CC2 Master Mapper of the Year award, specifically for his work on the Mappa Hârnica Toolkit.

Well done to Chris. He'll modestly claim that he couldn't have done it without the rest of the team's input, but he took our dreams and turned them into reality.

This is terrific news! Kudos to Chris. It's Hârn fans like him that raise the quality of the game that much higher than all the other FRPGs out there.

Andy Staples, fellow HârnGamer and perpetually industrious author of the Penultimate HârnPage, has announced that the long-awaited Hârn mapmaker's toolkit from the Campaign Cartographer 2 Hârn Mapping Project (CHMP) is now available for download in beta format.

This announcement from Andy on the Project Hârn Forum:

Mappa Hârnica Toolkit Beta v1.0 is a freeware beta CC2 add-on offering everything a CC2 mapper needs to create beautiful Hârn-style local and interior maps.

The Mappa Hârnica Toolkit includes new macros and commands enabling mapmakers to transform paths and polygons into hedges, ploughed fields, palisades, wooden floors, walls and much more with a simple mouse click.

It also includes new Hârnic symbols, enhanced drawing and editing tools, a selection of new colour palettes and the all-new random symbols - a new CC2 function which allows mappers to place randomised trees, rocks and each click of the mouse.

Mappa Hârnica Toolkit comes with a detailed manual explaining how to install and use the new add-on, and a selection of sample maps to demonstrate what can be achieved with it.

Mappa Hârnica Toolkit Beta v1.0 is a 2.4Mb download, available from:
http://www.minarsas.demon.co.uk/harn/chmp

Sample maps, which can be viewed without the toolkit installed, are available in a 1.2Mb download from the same address.

CC2 users wishing to know more about Hârn should visit Project Hârn at:
http://www.auran.com/harn/

Hârn fans seeking more information about CC2 can download a free demo version from ProFantasy software at:
http://www.profantasy.com

In order to use the toolkit you will require CC2 v6.038k. Users running CC2 v6.0+ can download a free update from ProFantasy's website. Users running earlier versions must purchase the version 6 upgrade from ProFantasy.

This looks awesome and so professional, especially when you consider that the developers produced this not for profit but out of their dedication to their hobby that is Hârn. Check it out!

I've finally completed a supplement I had been working on for GunMaster Gold. This one is about black powder firearms, particularly for the period between 1750 and 1850. You know, the kind of weapons you saw in The Patriot, etc. Enjoy!

You know, for a niche game like Hârn, there is quite an abundance of forums for fans to voice their opinions! Must be that HârnGamers have a lot to say. Here they are, in rough order of popularity:

HârnList  <harn-l@mitvma.mit.edu>
Email forum maintained by a listserv. All email sent to this mailing list are automatically forwarded to subscribers. To join, send an email to <listserv@mitvma.mit.edu> with the following message in the body of the message: subscribe harn-l Your Name (replace Your Name with your own name, of course!). After you receive confirmation of joining, you can send email to <harn-l@mitvma.mit.edu> to have your messages read by the other members of the HârnList. This is the oldest and by far the most popular Hârn discussion forum.

Project Hârn Forum  <http://www.auran.com/cgi-bin/harncgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro&BypassCookie=true>
Official discussion forum maintained by Auran. You must be a registered user to post new topics and replies on this forum. To register, follow the steps on the site. This is the newest forum and is proving to be very popular.

eGroups HârnList  <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HarnList>
Discussion forum maintained by eGroups. You must have a Yahoo! ID to become a member of this group. (If you have a Yahoo! email address, then you already have an ID.) You can become a member by following the steps on the eGroups HârnList homepage. This is an alternative forum set up by fellow HârnGamer Al Lowe for a number of reasons, one of which was because the future of the original HârnList was looking uncertain at some point and members were suggesting alternative forums.

HârnPage Forum  <http://www.columbiagames.com/dixie/cgi-bin/xmlforum.cgi?board=Harn&action=in%0Ddex>
Discussion forum maintained by Columbia Games. Anybody can post messages on this forum without having to be a member. This was the official Hârn forum until Auran launched its own.

Hârn Chat Room  <Server: irc.auran.com Port: 6667 Channel: #harn>
IRC forum maintained by Auran. You need to have an IRC client program such as mIRC to connect to the server. When it is active, this is a live chat room for users to discuss Hârn-related topics.

I finally got around to adding some extra memory to my computer. I hadn't realised how cheap SDRAM prices had become - less than a fifth of what they were just over a year ago! Initially, I had thought that I would have to sell off my existing 128Mb RAM because it was PC100 and the two new sticks of 128Mb RAM I had purchased were PC133. However, I've been able to keep all three sticks in my rig, yielding an extremely beneficial 384Mb. I think I was able to do this firstly because my motherboard is only running at 124MHz FSB instead of 133MHz (I can't overclock my CPU any more than that), and the older memory is able to keep up at that speed. The second reason is that all the DIMMs are running at the same CAS latency (3), which I think is necessary to keep the system stable.
