Scully and I were getting fed up with the old second-hand furniture we've had to put up with over the past 4 years, so we splashed out and bought a new lounge suite and a very comfortable futon sofa-bed. Also, since I am travelling on business yet again tomorrow, as a treat I bought myself a magnificent pair of gunmetal Maui Jim Kahuna sunglasses - horrendously expensive, even without sales tax, but worth every cent. :-) Spend, spend, spend!

I received a replacement Liebert PowerSure ProActive UPS, this time a 470VA version. That was quick service! What a relief. Since this one's been fully tested, I don't think I will have any more problems with UPS's.

My supplier at Howe Solutions had some important news: he had discovered from his supplier that there had been a batch of faulty Liebert PowerSure ProActive 350VA UPS's on the market, most of which had been recalled. Chances were extremely high that I had been supplied with three faulty products, one after another. His supplier has promised to replace the UPS with a fully-tested 470VA version, free of charge. Excellent! :-)

Would you believe it - my third replacement UPS overloaded this morning. This is ridiculous: how could three Liebert UPS's blow out one after the other like that? None has survived for more than about a month. All that was connected to the UPS (as on previous occasions) were the monitor and PC, certainly not onerous for a 350VA system. And this after getting a high quality surge filter and having a dedicated power outlet installed for my computer! I called my dealer straight away and asked that he work out a solution or get me a refund. Outrageous.

Talk about being busy. I arrived back from my travels in the small hours of this morning and barely managed to snatch some sleep before rushing off to yet another wedding! I can't blame anyone for not wanting to get married right now - the weather in Perth is perfect for it. This time, it was the wedding of Lisa and Gavin - congratulations! I don't know either of these people all that well, but Scully did go to primary school with Lisa... Anyway, it was a good wedding (well, what we saw of it - we were about an hour late!) and the reception was very nice.

I'm off on business from tonight so there won't be any updates to this site for about a week. My pet project, GunMaster Gold, is nearly complete though, so I hope to post it to my House Rules page soon after I return from my travels. :-)

Went to Kingsley and Trish's engagement party in the large back yard of their place tonight. It was a terrific night, cool and with hardly any wind. I met several of Kingsley's HârnMaster roleplayers, too, so much of the night was spent talking "shop".

We went to Bottyboy and Jade's wedding and reception today at Kings Park. Both of them came down from Japan to get married in Jade's home town (Perth, Western Australia). It was a wonderful day, the bride looked stunning, the groom looked happy and everyone had an excellent time.

Today, we went and voted in a referendum that asked whether Australia should become a republic, or remain as a constitutional monarchy. Looks like Queen Elizabeth II is still a favourite over here after all: most voters decided against becoming a republic. That should put a smug smile on the Brits' faces. More news on the results of the referendum are available here.

A Telstra technician installed a new telephone line specifically for my modem. He took an alarmingly long time to do that - I hope the bill isn't too high! At least there's a half-price special on installing second phone lines this month.
Today was Melbourne Cup day. Although I had the day off from work today, I joined in the office sweeps by phone and - incredibly - the horse that I had drawn (Rogan Josh) won the race! I drew the winning horse last year as well! If only I was this lucky in a real lottery. More news on the race here.

An electrician came round this morning and installed a power outlet specifically for my workstation. So, I now have a dedicated power line, a top-quality metal surge protector and a UPS protecting my computer. Call me paranoid, but I've had more than my fair share of disasters with my PC so I'm not taking any more chances! The sparkie also installed a security sensor light at the front of our house - no more fumbling for keys in the dark when we come home at night! :-)
I visited the rental property agent and handed back the keys to the rental unit. We had better get back all our bond money - our landlord should be on their knees thanking us profusely for taking such good care of their pathetic unit...
On an impulse-buy, I purchased a Microsoft IntelliMouse with IntelliEye (the mouse with no balls) for A$79 from Myer. This is the smoothest, most pinpoint-accurate mouse I've ever used! I highly recommend it.
