Okay, sToMp at iiNet has officially added the DHoB to the Perth Clan Ladder! Here's what he announced:

Welcome to a new clan Demon Horde of Balgashang. Only a smallinsh clan at the moment with 4 memebers but hopefully they will grab some new recruits from the servers and get warrin'.

I have to say that the team at Action Quake2 Map Depot have outdone themselves with their new Action Quake2 map pack, TeamPack: "With a Vengeance". It is excellent! If you're an AQ2 player, this is a must-have.

I was asked by a visitor (Ah-ha! So I'm not the only person who checks this page!) what Quake II autoexec.cfg settings I use for Single-Player games. So if anyone's interested, here it is: autoexec.cfg for SPQ2.

Oh man, I am so sore from yesterday's softball game! I tell ya, the name of the sport is completely misleading - there is nothing soft about the ball!

Saturday, 24 October 1998

Well, I'm going out to get a breath of fresh air this afternoon playing softball with The Yankee Bottoms Up Club (no, I'm not American, but Gryphon is). It's a great day for it and I really do need the exercise. After that, the fun continues with a game of Pictionary at Gryph's place - now that is a competitve game! :-)

Microsoft has confirmed yet another security vulnerability for Internet Explorer 4.01 - this time it's about Security Zones ("Dotless IP Address"). A patch has been released.

I posted some pics of my wife and I enjoying our holiday in San Francisco at around the beginning of 1998. It's really intended for my old mate Jonathan Chow, who showed us around SF and Stanford, but if you're interested, then have a look. Also included is a cartoon called Fairy Tale Island that Jonathan and I drew when we were at South Island School in Hong Kong - this would have (sentimental) value only to the two of us, but it's droll enough to be worth reading. :-)

Hey, some lame-ass hacker-wannabe Back Orificed Gryphon's computer! That sucks. Gryph managed to detect and delete the trojan attack using a small program called Cleaner. If you use IRC or ICQ, or have noticed weird things happening lately (e.g. someone else logging on to your account, your CD-ROM tray opening and closing for no reason, mysterious messages on your screen, etc), you might want to run this little program just to make sure you aren't a victim of Back Orifice or NetBus.

Microsoft has confirmed a security vulnerability involving scripted pastes in Internet Explorer 4.01. If you use this IE4.01, it might be a good idea to read more about it and download the patch.

I have fixed the format problems with the plaintext files in my House Rules page - previously, the text wouldn't wrap so it made it very difficult to read with the browser.

SwanCon 99 (aka ICon), the 24th Western Australian Science Fiction Convention, will run from 1 to 5 April 1999, but if you want to get your tickets at a discount, you should buy them now. For more details, click here. BTW, if you're wondering how this ties in with me, it doesn't particularly, but I did exhibit a board-game (JuggerMaster) that I designed at SwanCon 18 back in 1993.

On to Quake II. Here is a very useful site if you're interested in reducing your ping time: CRIME's Good Ping Guide. Every millisecond counts in a deathmatch!

Tuesday, 13 October 1998

Whew! I just checked out the new CrackWhore sound pak that Kyle Bousquet from Chaos! Comics released. Who is the voice talent in that pak? I can't wait to see what she looks like - she sounds incredible! :-) If you haven't downloaded the sound pak yet, you could try here.

Just been scanning the Hârnic websites and am delighted to see a number of them either have links to WarFlail's Armoury, or have incorporated some of my House Rules into their pages! Be sure to visit these fine sites:

If I've missed anyone, I apologise profusely. Please let me know so I can post your link here.

Hey, it's great to know that we are officially on the Quake II Clan List at Wantree's Quake Gamesworld! Time to start picking fights... :-)

Saturday, 10 October 1998

Well, I'm pleased to say that this website is coming along quite nicely. Most of my Hârn-related articles have now been posted - the only notable exception is JuggerMaster, which needs merging into a single document first.

Unfortunately, with all the time I've been putting into updating my House Rules page, I've had very little time to play Action Quake 2 online lately, let alone try out SP Ground Zero. :-(

BTW, my mate Aramis, the chairman of SwanCon 1999, invites all local Perth people to attend the SwanCon Quiz at the Hyde Park Hotel (331 Bulwer St, West Perth) from 1:00pm on Sunday, 11 October. The price is $5 per head. Should be good fun - I'll be there for sure, and so will the rest of the DHoB! :-)

Thursday, 8 October 1998

Some more tinkering around on my website to make it more visually appealling - thanks go to my old friend Robert Reiner for his helpful tips! :-)

You might have noticed that some of my earlier Hârn-related articles are in plaintext format instead of .pdf. This is because the articles were originally composed with the very first version of Microsoft Works (back when I was using a 286!), in an age when fancy tables and graphics were just about unheard of in word processing software. I suppose that the next stage is to convert the text files to HTML format or whatever, but that's a job for later... much later...

Wednesday, 7 October 1998

I've been digging around in the dark recesses of my hard drives and found several very old Hârn-related articles I wrote years ago. I've started posting them to the House Rules page since a couple of people have asked. It'll take a while for me to finish uploading all the articles, though, becaise they are in quite a mess and need to be cleaned up first. (Believe me, they really do!)

On the Action Quake 2 front, I'm glad to see that young CLIFFE at http://www.mapdepot.net/ has made available the sequel to the excellent mappack. Kudos to the map authors - mappack2.exe contains some seriously good levels.

Tuesday, 6 October 1998

This website has been almost continuously updated since it went online. Those of you who downloaded or read the .pdf files in the House Rules page would have noticed a few of them weren't formatted properly - these have now been corrected so please check them again (sorry for the inconvenience, folks!).

Monday, 5 October 1998

I converted all the image files from .jpg to .gif for faster loading. (Thanks, Gryphon!) I also changed the colours of the fonts and hyperlinks so that they aren't quite so painful to the eye! (Thanks, Markus!) :-)

Sunday, 4 October 1998

Links added, image files tidied up and some .pdf files uploaded to the server. Received lots of positive comments from people visiting this website - thanks!

Saturday, 3 October 1998

WarFlail's Armoury goes online! Very few links, nothing to download, but online nevertheless.
